Frequently asked questions
Should I buy baby clothes by age or weight?
By weight and length. Age labels assume an average-sized baby, and babies of the same age can be two sizes apart. If your baby is between sizes, go up.
What does 3M or 0–3 months mean?
US brands such as Carter's use "3M" to mean up to 3 months (the upper end), while many UK and EU brands label "0–3 months". They cover similar sizes, but always check the weight and height on the label.
How many newborn-size clothes do I need?
Fewer than you think. Many babies outgrow newborn size within 2–4 weeks, and babies over about 8 lb (3.6 kg) at birth may skip it entirely. A few newborn pieces and more 0–3 month clothes is a common approach.
